Shoulder

The shoulder joint is one of the most frequently used joints in daily life, connecting the arm to the body and possessing a wide range of motion. Thanks to this extensive mobility, the arm can perform many functions such as lifting, reaching, pushing, and rotating. However, this flexibility makes the shoulder joint more susceptible to trauma, strain, and degenerative diseases. Shoulder problems can be frequently observed, especially in individuals who exercise, work in heavy manual labor, or have desk jobs.

Among the most common causes of shoulder pain are shoulder impingement syndrome, rotator cuff muscle and tendon injuries, tendon tears, shoulder dislocations, calcific tendinitis, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), and joint osteoarthritis. Over time, these issues can lead to complaints such as pain, restricted movement, loss of strength, and night pain, negatively affecting patients’ daily life activities.

A detailed physical examination is of great importance in the diagnosis process. When necessary, imaging methods such as X-ray, MRI, and ultrasound are utilized to clarify the source of the problem. Accurate diagnosis is the fundamental step in creating an effective treatment plan. A personalized approach is adopted by considering each patient’s age, lifestyle, complaints, and expectations.

In the treatment of shoulder diseases, the priority is often non-surgical methods. Successful results can be achieved with medical treatments, rest, exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles around the shoulder, physical therapy applications, and injections. Surgical treatment comes into play in cases where conservative methods do not provide benefit or where there is advanced damage. Today, thanks to arthroscopic (closed) surgical techniques, a faster recovery process can be achieved with smaller incisions.

Protecting shoulder health is possible through correct posture habits, appropriate exercises, and early-stage orthopedic evaluations. With early diagnosis and correct treatment, a large portion of shoulder pain can be brought under control, aiming for patients to return to an active, pain-free life.
